Charity Has Power: How Disney Didn't Ruin Cinderella

Image source: Disney “Where there is kindness, there is goodness. Where there is goodness, there is magic.” I took my daughter to her first real movie last weekend to see Disney’s new live action Cinderella starring Lily James. I was intrigued by the trailer, but once I heard that Kenneth Branagh was directing, I had very high hopes. Any review will tell you that the film is … [Read more...]

The Best Comfort Movies for a Sick Day

The Best Comfort Movies for a Sick Day // Carrots for Michaelmas

There seems to be a magnetic attraction between December and illness in the house. Thankfully, so far it's just been mild colds for the kids, but I don't think we're alone in this phenomenon. And sick days often merit some snuggle time with a good movie. Tis the season of comfort movies, amirite?! Which made me wonder....what movies are comfort movies for other families? So I asked the Carrots … [Read more...]

The Vulnerable Victory of True Love: The Sacred Heart, ABC’s Once Upon a Time, C.S. Lewis and The Princess Bride

Once Upon a Time and the Sacred Heart // Carrots for Michaelmas

True confessions: every so often (AKA when I have a newborn) I binge watch a show on Netflix. I’ve watched plenty of embarrassing shows during 3am nursing sessions but I’ll only name one today: ABC’s Once Upon a Time fairy tale drama. Written by Adam Horowitz and Edward Kitsis of LOST, it’s similar to everyone’s favorite stuck-on-an-island-with-polar-bears series in that it has an ensemble cast … [Read more...]

Les Misérables Review and DVD Giveaway!

March 27, 2013 By Haley 169 Comments

Going to the movies is something that happens once in a blue moon for us. Due to the outrageous prices and having to find childcare for the little ones, we’ve gone to the movies once in the past 18 months and we went to see the new Les Misérables. I simply couldn’t miss it because I’ve been a huge fan of the musical since I was a little girl. To be honest, I was anxious that the new film wouldn’t … [Read more...]

Les Miserables: A Revolution of Grace

January 22, 2013 By Haley 18 Comments

Have you seen the new film adaption of the musical version of Les Miserables? Les Mis has been a part of my life since I was a little girl and my family would listen to the musical on long car trips. My sweet mother (who hates big cities) actually took me to NYC so that we could see it performed on Broadway, and I read Victor Hugo’s novel when I was still far too young to grasp more than the … [Read more...]

My Edwardian Obsession

February 4, 2012 By Haley 3 Comments

I truly never write about fashion. However, since Season 2 has done nothing but deepen my obsession with Downton Abbey, I've been trying to figure out how to dress Edwardian without embarrassing my family and friends. Because seriously...these dresses.   I've been trying to find Edwardianesque additions to my wardrobe. I bought these heels the other day:  And I found this awesome … [Read more...]

September 2011 Reads

September 3, 2011 By Haley 9 Comments

I'm trying to put my feet up and read and relax whenever I get the chance these days. I can tell that my body is already gearing up for Baby Lucy's arrival. On Thursday, after a 45 min. drive to GA, three hours of back-to-back teaching little ballerinas, and a 45 min. drive home, I started having TONS of Braxton-Hicks. I didn't get out a watch to time them but we estimated that they were lasting … [Read more...]

The Tree of Life

August 16, 2011 By Haley Leave a Comment

Daniel and I went to see Terence Malick's The Tree of Life on Saturday, partly because we've been meaning to see it and partly because our favorite little artsy movie theatre in town (Miracle 5) closed on Sunday and we wanted to go one last time. The Tree of Life takes place in Waco, TX where we lived for six years and much of it was filmed there. It was fun to see town landmarks like the ALICO … [Read more...]
