That Time I Cut Gwen’s Hair (!)

So I did something this morning. Kind of on a whim. I cut my baby girl’s hair. First hair cuts are always a pretty big deal but not everyone’s barely 2-year-old has hair down to her hips. So it was a SUPER big deal.

I’ve been pulling for a cute summer bob for awhile but Daniel wasn’t ready to say goodbye to her baby curls. So I put him on hair washing/conditioning/detangling duty which he graciously accepted and uncomplainingly carried out for several weeks. But with the big road trip coming up he agreed that it was time.

About a month ago she started fighting me on doing ANYTHING with her hair except let it hang down like a waterfall over her face. This morning she straight up refused to let me put it in a pony tail, so I said, “If you don’t let Mommy get your hair out of your eyes, you’re gonna need a hair cut.” “I wanna hair cut,” was the reply. So I pulled out the scissors and voila!

And see how cute?!!!

So how bout a little stroll down memory lane for all the times Gwen’s hair was on fleek?

She did emerge from the womb, not just with hair, but with a HAIR DO:

Hair in the food has always been the name of her game, but it was semi-manageable when she was a baby.

Now not so much. But before she refused any hair styling, she did rock the top knot.

With attitude.

And the Little House on the Prairie look was a good one, too.

It was fun brushing off my french braiding skills.

And I’m glad that we have documentation of her amazing tresses in our recent family photos (by Crown and Bough Photography):

Because adorable.

She’s diggin’ it:

And it looks a lot like Lucy’s hair at this age:

Cuties.

Do you love it? Or are you too mad to talk to me. It’s ok, I get it. I can’t help but be a little sad about the trim, too. She was a baby hair sensation. She may need to consider re-branding. 😉

    Cute! Good job, Mama!

We have a ‘If you won’t take care of it/let me take care of it I will cut it’ rule here too. My oldest often has shorter hair because of this, she just has no patience for hair doings, despite her thick curls, with little effort other then dampening the ends. It always grows back.

I think Gwen would look adorable no matter what you did with her hair. But yes, I love the short ‘do!

oh my makes her look so grown up. If you’re missing her hair, not to worry her hair will soon grow back, it’s fast growing.

she looks so cute! my husband won’t let me cut my daughter’s hair either (and she doesn’t want to), and it’s past her butt haha. I’ve been harassing her to get bangs for a couple of weeks now but she won’t have it. I keep emphasizing that it’s only the front but she gives me dirty looks, says no and twirls away :/

It’s completely adorable. But I think the real question here is HOW DID YOUR 2 YEAR OLD SIT LONG ENOUGH TO HAVE HER HAIR FRENCH BRAIDED!!?!?!?

She’s adorable. Great job! My 8-year-old has hair that’s only been trimmed (2, maybe 3, times a year since she was 3) and that is not even to her shoulder blades yet! She has a gorgeous head of auburn-brown, thick, just a tiny bit of body hair, though. But I’ve had to talk her down from a bob because it’d take 8 years to grow out! 🙂

The fruit of my womb have always been born very, very, very hairy, so I’m all good on the last resort haircut. Hey- a mom’s gotta do what a mom’s gotta do.

She looks adorable. But then again all you kidlets are adorable.
I’m jealous, I didn’t have hair like that until I was about 8 & then Mum made me cut it to a bob.
It will always grow back & will def make your road trip easier.
    All the best

She looks absolutely darling! I have two boys who pretty much always have buzz cuts, so the fun of styling female hair is not a part of my experience as a mom. I have to live vicariously through others. 🙂

That said, like Gwen, my older son came out of the womb with perfectly-styled hair … he had a side part and everything. It was truly impressive.

Very cute, but I’d really like to know how she sat still long enough for the French braid?! My 2 yr old’s ponytail is crooked today because that was the best I could do!

I have to admit I’m a big fan of long hair on girls, and myself, but Gwen’s bob looks so adorable and frames her face so nicely that I forgive you 😉 Just kidding, but really it will be so much easier on the road trip to have it shorter and if she had that much hair to start with she surely won’t have any issue growing it out later if she wants to. She has some seriously impressive hair genes there. And the baby pic with it looking all styled is adorable! My second son was literally born with a mohawk, he only had long hair on the top and it stuck straight up for months, and it was awfully cute. Now he wants hair like Daddy’s though so no more mohawk, he’s growing it out long to match my husbands’.

Aww, so cute! Her hair is amazing, too. Little girls have such beautiful hair. I once was an assistant in a kindetgbrden class and I couldn’t help but think how nice my hair would be if it was an untouched as that of a child’s. I’m a bit jealous!
