Happy New Year!
Every so often, we chat fashion at Carrots. I hope it feels like going shopping with a friend, but not having to try on jeans, or leave your couch.
Today I’m gonna share my latest fix from Stitch Fix. (I’m not gonna go into the details of the personal styling service Stitch Fix here, but if you want to know more you can check out my posts about whether Stitch Fix is worth it, how it compares to other styling services like Golden Tote.)
I convinced my trusty photographer to snap some outfit photos.
Now if that face doesn’t say, “excited about fashion,” I don’t know what does!
So without further ado, let’s get to it. I’ll show you the “no’s” first and we’ll end with the winners.
Skirt: Stitch Fix, Top: Old Navy, Shoes: Target
Item #1: Margaret M Verna Striped Ponte Pencil Skirt. Nope. I’m not sure if it’s just a result of the holiday feasting, but the skirt is way too snug. Like, I couldn’t breathe kind of snug. And I love the look of a top tucked into a pencil skirt but the snugness was so snug that no tucking in was possible. I actually tried styling it with a different top and different shoes and it looked just as weird. Things to note: Yes, you really can be this pale and live in Florida. Also, now I remember why I never wear those shoes.
Daniel’s Take: “I think it looks good on you. But I don’t think you’ll wear it.”
Anyhow…sent it back.
Shirt: Stitch Fix, Jeans: Old Navy, Necklace: chloe +isabel
Item #2: Skies Are Blue Maia Embroidered Cotton Knit Top. I actually really love this top. But I already have it in cream from the time I tried out Golden Tote. Definitely don’t need two shirts that look exactly the same. Since you can’t see the detail in that picture, here’s a close up:
Daniel’s Take: “With the owl necklace, it makes me think of a fanciful woodland scene.”
Item #3: Street Level Parvin Reversible Hang Tag Detail Tote. Nothing about this purse thrilled me. And the material felt cheap. Daniel said it best when he described it as….
Daniel’s Take: “Looks like something you got for free at a conference.”
Item #4: Market and Spruce Corinna Striped Dolman Top. LOVE. I wore this four days in a row this week. And then it started to get stinky so I had to take it off to wash it. What a drag. It’s perfect for winter in Florida weather, so super soft, and just slouchy enough to be terribly forgiving during the post-Christmas season. Nothing motivates you to start an exercise routine like realizing that only your “pie jeans” can zip up.
Daniel’s Take: “Looks super comfy. I wanna wear it.”
Item #5: Pixley Lex Mini Chevron Knit Fit & Flare Dress. I really love everything about this dress. Keepin’ it. It is surprisingly forgiving in the tummy department. So yay.
Daniel’s Take: “I call this dress ‘High desert meets high fashion: the southwest and the runway collide.'”
Speaking of Daniel, he got me this cool waxed canvas tote from Anhaica, a local bag works. I’m digging’ it.
Now let’s get serious, folks. Growing out short hair. Is. the. pits. But I REALLY really want my hair to be long enough to put in a ponytail next summer. Maybe that’s impossible. If it is, don’t tell me. I need all the motivation I can get to keep from going back to a pixie cut right this second.
What are your favorite forgiving outfits for early January? And is there anything but sticking a million bobby pins in my hair that I can do to keep from losing my mind while growing it out?
