Friday Fashion Frivolity: My Latest Stitch Fix

Every so often, we chat fashion at Carrots. I hope it feels like going shopping with a friend, but not having to try on jeans.

I’m not a fashionista, but after not being the same size two months in a row for five years (thanks, three pregnancies!) I have to admit that I’m enjoying experimenting with fashion while the maternity clothes are stored away for a bit. I was kinda in a fashion rut after Gwen was born, so…enter Stitch Fix into my life. (Also, I kind of super hate shopping for myself and the idea of clothes just showing up on my doorstep makes me do a happy dance.)

From the recent Carrots readers survey, it sounds like about half of you want MORE fashion posts and half of you want LESS fashion posts, so I’m just gonna keep on, keepin’ on and if you’re not a fan of them, feel free to just skip ’em. Deal?

(I’m not gonna go into the details of the personal styling service Stitch Fix here, but if you want to know more you can check out my posts about whether Stitch Fix is worth it, how it compares to other styling services like Golden Tote, and a thrifty alternative.) Ok, moving on to my latest fix.

Daniel do what

First I had to convince Daniel to take all the photos. He was thrilled at the prospect.

BDSsword

Benjamin helpfully offered to model, too. Shirt and pants c/o his grandmother. Blue sidewalk chalk hands/sword combo c/o being a five-year-old boy

And here we go:

Stitch Fix Papermoon Chevron Henley

Item #1: Lexis Chevron Print Henley Tank (Papermoon) I love the colors. At first I wasn’t sure if I’d end up wearing a patterned tank very often, but I’ve been surprised at how many times I’ve pulled it out of my closet in the past few weeks. And yes, it’s still occasionally sleeveless weather in Florida. Le sigh.

Daniel’s take: “Is the pattern going to start moving? Like an optical illusion? Or one of those Magic Eye things?”

Kensie Sophia Skinny Jeans

Note: Not trying to do a ridiculous pose here. Genuinely laughing at shenanigans like this (see below) that were occurring during the picture taking frenzy.

BDSTree

Item #2: Sophia Skinny Jeans (Kensie) I’ve been wearing these jeans NON-STOP since I got them. Super comfortable and they’re not super high-waisted, but they’re high-wasted enough to hold my love handles in. Win.

Daniel’s take: “Um. They’re jeans. I like them?”

Beck Crochet Sleeve Hooded Top En Creme

Item #3: Beck Crochet Sleeve Hooded Top (En Creme) I love this hoodie. It’s like “hi, I’m the perfect weight for Florida November AND I have Anne of Green Gables sleeves.” Yes.

Daniel’s Take: “It’s like something you’d wear in a fashion gang.”

Me: “I don’t know what that means.”

Alden Embroidery Detail Top En Creme

Item #4: Alden Embroidery Detail Top (En Creme) Perhaps my favorite item in the fix. It’s breezy and pretty without being over-the-top flower child. Here’s the embroidery up close:

Alden Embroidery Detail Top En Creme

Daniel’s Take: “It looks like something a Ukrainian peasant would wear. So I guess that makes it trendy because….current events and all that.”

Danielpeaceout

“I’m ready to peace out.” So are all my readers. Alright, folks, wrapping it up! Laaaaast one:

Caspian Scallop Trim Cardigan Skies Are Blue

Item #5: Caspian Scallop Trim Cardigan (Skies Are Blue) Super love the color. And I really like the longer length. Again, I feel like Anne-with-an-E would wear it, and I always feel pretty good about that.

Caspian Scallop Trim Cardigan Skies Are Blue

Daniel’s Take: “At first you think, ‘hey, it’s a bathrobe!’ then you realize, ‘no, it’s FASHION.’”

I ended up keeping everything (I was iffy on the first item, but there’s a 25% off incentive if you keep the whole fix). I’ve seen some people complain that over time their fixes got worse and worse, but I think mine are getting better and better. (Could be because I requested the same stylist from one of my best fixes and I think she’s getting to know my style really well.)

Have you tried Stitch Fix? Did your fixes get better or worse over time?

Super love the last sweater! Love the color, the style. Just love! Looks too warm for FL though!

I wasn’t so sure on the tank, but I think you’ve posted pictures in it already (St Augustine trip, maybe?) and it works.

What a great Fix this time around!

    And love silly Benjamin!

Thanks, Amanda! It actually gets pretty chilly in N. Florida (it rarely ices and freezes, but 30s are typical in the winter). We actually had to turn the heater on the other day because we left for the weekend and then returned to a 55 degree house. I don’t know if that’s cold to non-Florida folk 😉

That is cold- obviously MN is colder, but not what you think of when you think of “Florida weather”. My dad actually lives in Pensacola and constantly posts pictures of the beach and how nice the weather is seemingly all year-round. Is the Gulf Coast much warmer, or is he just messing with us? Haha!

Tallahassee is generally really temperate, but we gets a few good days of cold scattered from November to March. No snow though 🙁

I liked all of them! I didn’t realize you could request a stylist you liked. Hm. That’d be quite handy…

Yes! Just put it in your comments! My second fix was BAD. Just awful. I didn’t keep anything. And then I requested the same gal from my first fix (which was great) and it’s been happy ever since 😉

“It’s FASHION!” Hahahah, cracked me right up. I really like all these pieces, and am desperately searching for GOOD skinny jeans for a short person (I’m 5’1). I will have to check them out!

Yes, I do like this Kensie jeans. I also like Old Navy jeans for short people. Their sweetheart skinny jeans fit me. And I got some ankle length jeans from Golden Tote that I really liked, too. I think the brand is Just USA?

What did you think of the prices of your items? Reasonable? I have my first fix coming soon!!

I talked about pricing a bit in this post. But according to SF, their average price point is $55/item and I’ve seen that to be pretty accurate for my fixes. Pants are usually between $60-90 and tops between $30-50. Here’s the thing, I could definitely find cheaper stuff at Target (which has been my go to place for the past few years). But part of what you’re paying for is the service of not having to go anywhere and having someone choose items for you. So, I don’t think SF pricing is unreasonable for what you get (and the quality of all the pieces I’ve gotten has been very, very good. Much better than Target.) But if I didn’t have some referral credit stored up for this fix, I probably wouldn’t have bought everything. Not because I didn’t love it, but because it would just have been a little too pricey for our budget. I think in general, the best way to make it a “deal” is to buy at least one item (that way the $20 styling fee is waived) or to buy everything and get the $25 off discount. This is getting rambly! So…yes, I think it’s reasonable for what you get. But it is significantly more than I would typically spend if I went shopping for myself.

“It’s like something you’d wear in a fashion gang.” Hahaha… What? Well, whatever fashion gang you’re a part of, I’m on board. I like the gang-worthy hooded sweatshirt and the cardigan a lot. I think you’re right: it does seem like your fixes have gotten better as time goes on.

SUCH a little monkey. I took all three to the park this morning and a dad said, “are they all yours? They’re FEARLESS.” Which is true. And why taking all three to the park by myself is mildly terrifying and I’m shocked we haven’t spent time in the ER. Guardian angels!

Modern Anne of Green Gables for sure and as always, Daniel’s commentary is thoroughly entertaining. “Something you’d wear in a fashion gang” was my favorite.

I am jealous you got to keep everything in your box. I asked for no jewelry but they sent jewelry. I don’t need $35 earrings! gah! I’m in NW FL too so I am anxiously awaiting to see if maybe I’ll get a sweater in this next box 🙂
