It's been a big week around here! This little precious girl turned one yesterday on the Feast of St. Joan of Arc. And so, of course, I'm all teary-eyed about her becoming a toddler and not being my squishy little newborn. (Image by Sarah Gray Photography) What a little pumpkin! I read over her birth story this morning and cried happy tears. I'm so grateful to be her mom. The other … [Read more...]

It’s Our 8th Anniversary! Sometimes I Write About Being Married.
Eight years ago today, I did a super smart thing and married Daniel Stewart. You can read about everything that led up to that day in our love story. (Aww. Or gag...depending on how you feel about sappy love stories.) Here's a few posts I've written about the married life that I thought I'd share to commemorate the day. (Also, we're going on our second date without the baby in a year! I plan to … [Read more...]
Recalibrating! (How Parenting Is Like Following a GPS)
You know where you’re trying to go. You thought you were on the road that would get you there, but suddenly everything looks wrong and your intuition is confirmed when the know-it-all voice of the GPS on your dashboard barks, “RECALIBRATING!” You took a wrong turn and the lady inside your GPS is frantically trying to get you back on track. For a blogger, I have surprising Luddite tendencies. I … [Read more...]
From the Garden: Fresh Mint Homemade Ice Cream Recipe
The other day I posted a photo on Instagram of a batch of homemade ice cream made from fresh mint from the garden. It's our go to summer dessert and there must be other folks out there whose gardens are overflowing with mint because I had several requests to share the recipe. I thought I'd do a how-to post (and because recipe posts are only fun with photos we simply had to make another batch. I'm … [Read more...]

I Bribed My Children With LEGO So I Could Read This Book (and a GIVEAWAY so you can read it, too!)
I've never pre-ordered a book. But when Jen Fulwiler's spiritual memoir Something Other Than God was available for pre-order on Amazon, I went for it. I've been a devoted reader of Jen's blog Conversion Diary for years and I've followed her process of writing and re-writing and then teaming up with an amazing publisher (Ignatius Press!) to release this story. But when my copy finally arrived, I … [Read more...]

Next week's questions are below, so join in on the fun! 1. What's the scariest thing that's ever been in your yard? The Novel that Made Me Catholic (Introducing the Carrots Classic Book Club)
It sounds strange, but Evelyn Waugh’s 20th century British novel, Brideshead Revisited influenced my decision to become Catholic perhaps more than anything else. I read the Church Fathers and studied Catholic theology and my intellectual obstacles to becoming Catholic were slowly crumbling. But at my core, I need story. My brain works narratively. I slog through non-fiction, but I can devour … [Read more...]
This Week’s Miscellany: Vol. 87
Summer is officially here in Florida. Breezy morning and sunny, sweaty afternoons. I adore the windows open days before the "shut the front door! You're letting all the air conditioning out!" days arrive (which will be any minute now). We made fresh mint ice cream from mint from our herb garden this week to celebrate and it was SO GOOD: Book Love: Jen Fulwiler's memoir, Something Other … [Read more...]
