Preventing Morning Sickness and Easing Back Into Life

March 10, 2014 By Haley 3 Comments

A few weeks ago when I shared my "one word" for 2014, I mentioned that some of my health goals had to do with preventing morning sickness in future pregnancies with B vitamins and Magnesium since I've struggled with severe pregnancy sickness in the past. So many of you emailed or commented wanting to hear more about preventing morning sickness that I wrote a whole post on the topic and my friend … [Read more...]

This Week’s Miscellany: Vol. 82

March 7, 2014 By Haley 10 Comments

My "I haven't had any sugar in three days" withdrawal headache is telling me that Lent is really here! This has been QUITE a week. Not because earth-shattering things have happened at our house (although I DID deep clean our entire  kitchen which isn't exactly a frequent occurrence) and not because Baby Gwen is blessing us with waking at 4:45am perky and ready for the day: Lookin' good. For … [Read more...]

Bury the Alleluia and Other Last Minute Lent Resources

March 5, 2014 By Haley 13 Comments

It's here. Lent. Ash Wednesday. After a rip-roaring Mardi Gras, Baby Gwen made it her special task to mortify my flesh by getting up at 4:45am...Pretty typical wake time. But it hurt a little more after eating too many cookies and staying up too late. So here I am gulping coffee while she chomps on banana and we wait in the dark for the rest of the family to wake up so we can go to Mass. Lent … [Read more...]

Two Parenting Epiphanies I Wish I’d Realized Sooner

March 2, 2014 By Haley 29 Comments

I've had a couple of valuable epiphanies since Baby Gwen (our third) arrived. After an easy-going season for four-year-old Benjamin, the addition of a new baby seemed to throw him for a loop. His frustration wasn't ever directed at her, his "sweetheart", but at me. We just weren't clicking. It felt like he was a black hole of needs and I was in the throws of postpartum sleep deprivation with … [Read more...]

Books: The New Year’s Resolution I Actually Care About

March 1, 2014 By Haley 52 Comments

I'm not big on New Year's resolutions. By this time of year, I've likely already forgotten them--unless they're about books. I love making a yearly list of reading goals, adding to it, and crossing off books when I finish them. This year I had so much fun seeing the reading lists everyone made to include in the Reading Goals for 2014 link up. But is anyone else already behind on their list? … [Read more...]
