40+ Resources for Lent and February Liturgical Traditions (for 2018 Calendar)

Resources for Observing Lent! (And other liturgical traditions in February)

I'm always trying to figure out how to make it easier for families to observe the Christian Year because we felt so overwhelmed when we first started that journey (which is why we wrote the book we wish we had then).  I thought it might be helpful for our family to have resources compiled for the month ahead so that we can plan in advance which special saints days we want to observe and I hope … [Read more...]

Liturgical Living At a Glance: February

January 27, 2014 By Haley 8 Comments

February can be such a bleak month weather-wise (it might SNOW today in FLORIDA! We're anxiously watching the skies!) so, we thought it would be fun to put the ebook version of Feast! on super sale to spice things up! I'm always trying to figure out how to make it easier for families to observe the Christian Year because we felt so overwhelmed when we first started that journey (which is why we … [Read more...]

Liturgical Living: Candlemas (Feb. 2)

January 27, 2014 By Haley 8 Comments

Most of the content for this post about celebrating Candlemas is drawn from our book, Feast! Real Food, Reflections, and Simple Living for the Christian Year. Candlemas is coming up this Sunday and I wanted to share some information and resources for celebrating! About the Feast Candlemas on February 2nd celebrates the Presentation of Christ: the event described in the Gospel of Luke when the … [Read more...]

New Skills

February 5, 2011 By carrotsformichaelmas 7 Comments

I want to acquire some new skills. Primarily, sewing. I found an e-course on quilting that seems pretty great on Rachel Denbow's blog. I would love to make Benjamin a quilt for his bed. And I want to turn my wedding dress into a christening gown for future babies. Now that I can successfully knit a scarf I need some new ideas of what to knit...and probably some assistance. Knitters, where do … [Read more...]

Tea for a Cold and Preparing for Candlemas

January 26, 2011 By carrotsformichaelmas Leave a Comment

Candlemas is on February 2nd and I would really like to make some 100% beeswax candles to be blessed for the year. Any suggestions on where to get the supplies and how to do it? I think beeswax can be expensive so we might only make a few, I just don't want to be burning anything toxic in our home. You can read the very little that I know about Candlemas on last year's Feast day post. But I still … [Read more...]

Polenta for Candlemas!

February 4, 2010 By Haley 7 Comments

February 2nd is the Feast of Candlemas. It celebrates the presentation of Christ at the Temple and the Purification of the Blessed Virgin Mary forty days after Christmas. This is the event described in the Gospel of Luke when the Virgin and St. Joseph present Jesus at the Temple and the faithful Simeon and Anna behold and recognize Jesus as the Messiah they have been waiting for.  After seeing the … [Read more...]
