Your House Isn’t as Dirty as Mine. I PROMISE. (And spring cleaning treats for you!)

Hello, world. I know it’s been quiet around here for a few weeks. The truth is that I’ve been absolutely debilitated by extreme pregnancy nausea (Hyperemesis gravidarum) since week 4 of pregnancy. I was in bed so many days in a row that our nextdoor neighbors hadn’t seen me in weeks and were concerned I was being kept prisoner inside my house. And y’all…..my house…..just crumbled into disaster. Homeschooling 3 kids means being barely ahead of house chaos on the best of days. Being too sick to rinse a dish meant that things spiraled out of control FAST.

I think this is toothpaste on the bathroom cabinet door. Whatever it is, it’s been there a looooooong time. I’ll spare you images from the rest of the house.

Daniel did his absolute best to keep the home fires burning, and kept us in clean underwear and kept the dirty dishes from piling up in the sink but he started a new job right when my morning sickness ramped up AND was still working full-time at the farm for several weeks to wrap up some projects for them. The dear man was falling asleep while folding laundry late after working a 16 hour day like Cinderelly. But there was just no holding back the tidal wave of undone house work. In some ways, it was a little bit validating that yes, all those little moments of work I do throughout the day to keep our home running smoothly, those moments matter! It’s PRETTY CLEAR when there’s no one doing those tasks.

But friends! I am waking up to life again! I’m still queasy all day and needing my prescription anti-nausea meds, but I can drive and function and shower and get dressed in the morning. And this week I’m beginning the long journey of climbing out of the black hole of mess that’s accumulated over the past 7 weeks. I deep cleaned our kitchen and it felt SO GOOD. I’m still not 100% by any means, so this will be slow going, but I am looking forward to having a semi-orderly space again for us all to enjoy (and not feeling like walking down the hallway into the bathroom is an obstacle course of scaling mountains of dirty laundry, random art supplies, glasses of water, and stuffed animals).

You may not have just been through a similar hellish season of insanity, but this is the time of year when we all want to clear out the Christmas decorations and seek some clean space to welcome spring in a few weeks! (Oh,  you’ve already packed up all your Christmas decor?…..Oh yes…ME, TOO. The Christmas tree is totally not still up. Stocking are NOT hanging on the mantle. And greenery and lights are carefully packed away is what I MEANT to say.)

Since I was far too sick to leave the house for a few weeks, I’m so grateful that my favorite natural cleaning products were already scheduled to arrive on my doorstep from Grove Collaborative (and I love their prices).

This post contains affiliate links.

If you’ve been eyeing Grove but haven’t tried them out, now is a great time to give Grove a try, because they’re offering a free New Year, New You Set with your first order of $20 to help you create your own healthy home care routine today through January 14th!

AND FREE shipping, y’all.

If you’re already a customer, you’ll get a free set of Grove walnut scrubber sponges, my absolute favorite sponges to use in our kitchen.

Mrs. Meyers were some of the first natural products I started using, and they’re still a staple in my kitchen and bathrooms. All the products are non-toxic and made with plant-derived ingredients, so I can feel good using them around my family. I usually switch out my different favorite scents depending on the season. Right now I’m using the basil scent because it smells amazing!

(Just to be clear, this is not my bathroom. Note, the lack of blue toothpaste art, our signature style. People have called it “distinctive.”)

With Grove Collaborative, I don’t have to stand in the grocery store aisle wrangling small children whilst Googling ingredients before I add an item to my cart. They’ve done their homework, which makes it easy to know which products are better for my family.

In addition to the free New Year, New You set, here are the top 8 products I’d order from Grove if you’re looking to create your own healthy cleaning routine:

    1. Seventh Generation laundry detergent
    2. Grove Collaborative wool dryer balls — these are genius!
    3. Grove Collaborative kitchen towel
    4. Seventh Generation auto dish packs
    5. Grove Collaborative glass spray bottle with silicone sleeve–I can whip up my own sprays with essential oils with the glass bottle (can’t use them with plastic).
    6. Acure Organics Rosehip Oil (this is what I use for my face!)
    7. Tom’s Children’s Toothpaste
    8. Grove Collaborative Bubble Up Dish Brush Set

Once you submit your Grove order, you’ll also be signed up for the free 60 day VIP trial. For 60 days, save even more with free shipping, free gifts, price matching, exclusive sales and personal service. My VIP membership has paid for itself in shipping alone!

Here’s how it works:

  1. Sign up for Grove Collaborative here. You will receive the New Year, New You Offer for free when you sign up!
  2. To receive this offer, your order needs to be a minimum of $20. Choose the combination of products and scents you love and receive your first box within a few days.
  3. You made it! Click Finish & Pay and place your order.

Just don’t forget that this offer is only available until January 14th or until Grove runs out of New Year, New You kits! I’m going to try to get one more room in my house deep cleaned today with the help of my good smelling Mrs. Meyer’s goodies.

A little unrelated, but as a fellow first trimester mom with a toothpaste decorated bathroom I sort of had a fangirl moment when I was tracking my husband’s 100k race last weekend and saw your husband’s name on there. For a brief second I was like, I’m not the onlyonewho feels less than stellar and is watching her brood while her husband runs in the woods for HOURS because he’s so dedicated to being a good husband and father but sometimes he just needs to be outside and running 62 miles to feel like himself again. Solidarity, ultra wife!

Oh my gosh!!!!! That is so crazy! What a cool coincidence. A few people said, “wow! You’re so supportive for letting Daniel go run that race.” I was like….”you have no idea how much he’s been doing for the past 2 months to keep us afloat in every possible way. This is the ONE THING he gets to do for himself so you bet I’m supportive!” Thank goodness for sweet husbands with crazy hobbies. But hey, I figure if you’re going to have an extreme hobby….running really far is a pretty affordable one, lol I’m so glad you told me this! I wonder if they saw each other!

I just wanted to pop on here to say – I’m so sorry you’re struggling with HG! I had it very bad at the beginning of this pregnancy as well (weeks 6-18) and am also still taking medication, though not nearly as much now at week 34 so I’m very sympathetic at how impossible the rest of life is when you feel that awful. I’m glad yours is improving a little and allowing you to function again! Just wanted to give a little shout out of solidarity to say hang in there, praying for you, and thank God it doesn’t last forever and has such a sweet reward at the end!

Just teared up a bit reading this. I suffer from HG while pregnant too. My husband works long hours, (although one job) and he really steps up to take care of us all when I can’t. Hang in there you guys, you’re doing great!

It’s wonderful to hear from you and your lovely family. Praying for you and the new addition.
Also a bit off the subject: do you have an apple cider vinegar brand you favor? I’m starting to try it, but maybe Heinz vinegar in the plastic bottle isn’t what I’m looking for?
