Friday Fashion Frivolity: Say Goodbye to Cold Weather (Elizabeth & Clarke Winter Review & Summer Spoiler)

Welcome to Carrots! I'm so glad you're here. This is where I share thoughts on liturgical living, faith, parenting, culture, and an extra dose of Jane Austen. You can sign up for my email newsletter here to stay in touch, or look me up on Instagram!

Welcome to Carrots! I'm so glad you're back. You can sign up for my email newsletter here to stay in touch, or look me up on Instagram!

Every so often, we chat fashion at Carrots. I hope it feels like going shopping with a friend, but not having to try on jeans….or leave your couch.

We’ve had THE MOST BEAUTIFUL February in central Texas! Does that mean summer will come early and we’ll have a hundred 105+ degree days in a row? Probably, but I’m gonna enjoy this while I can (Sorry, friends in frozen wastelands. You can laugh at me in August).

I haven’t carried our coats to the attic yet, but we get the occasional day of sandal weather. That’s why will be so fun to review Elizabeth & Clarke’s Winter Collection AND give a spoiler of their Summer Collection! I’ve never done a spoiler post before, so this should be fun. OK! Winter first!

Don’t know what Elizabeth & Clarke is? It’s my favorite resource for beautiful tops that last. Basically it’s a subscription service for affordable designer-quality shirts that ships seasonally (every three months). You can choose to subscribe for 1, 2, or all 3 tops (but the price per top drops if you subscribe for 2 or 3). They mostly have basics in neutral colors, they offer full refunds on everything, and they care about ethical practices and fair wages for the production of their clothes.

And for the first time, I have a discount code for you! You can use CCARROTS10 at Elizabeth & Clarke to get 10% off your first box.

Ok, let’s do this:

The Iris Top by Elizabeth & Clarke (Winter Collection 2017)

Top: c/o Elizabeth & Clarke use CODE: CCARROTS10 for 10% off, Skirt: c/o LuLaRoe, Sandals: used from ThredUP,

Item #1: The Iris. I love this top. I don’t own anything else in purple, so I’m really digging the color. While the color’s bold, the style is simple and very flattering. It looks great with jeans, too.

The Iris Top by Elizabeth & Clarke (Winter Collection 2017)

I really like the accents on the shoulders.

My husband Daniel’s take: “I say yes if the shoulders are pockets! No, if they aren’t.”

My HIGHLY PROFESSIONAL photographers are my 8-year-old son and my 32-year-old husband and SOMEDAY they’ll master not cutting my feet off in photos. But UNTIL THAT DAY:

The Kimber by Elizabeth & Clarke (Winter 2017)

Top: c/o Elizabeth & Clarke use CODE: CCARROTS10 for 10% off, Jeans: Stitch Fix, Necklace: Aroma Couture

Item #2: The Kimber. I am obsessed with this shirt. It has been scientifically proven to be the most comfortable shirt in the universe. Ok, so that’s not true, but Y’ALL. It looks cute with jeans, it has a cat poking out of the pocket, and it’s made out of the softest material ever. I’m currently in bed with a cold drinking Thieves tea and wearing THIS SHIRT.

Tangent: I find it interesting that I seem to be able to handle unmedicated childbirth with NO PROBLEM but if I have a cold I need 24 hour care, sympathy, pampering, tea, soup, and Netflix or I WILL SURELY DIE. Homeschooling for the day is officially cancelled for a viewing of Anne of Green Gables AND Anne of Green Gables the Sequel (but never Anne the Continuing Story because it is the worst and let it be anathema). Send tea.

The Kimber by Elizabeth & Clarke (Winter 2017)

My 8-year-old son Benjamin’s take: “I really like the cat poking out of the pocket. It’s so cute.”  AGREED.

The Davenport by Elizabeth & Clarke (Winter 2017)

Top: c/o Elizabeth & Clarke use CODE: CCARROTS10 for 10% off , Shorts: Stitch Fix

Item #3: The Davenport. OK first things first. Look at sweet little Benjamin’s reflection in the window. He takes this job SO SERIOUSLY (but not seriously enough to ever show my feet). This top is perfect for jeans or tucked into a skirt. You can dress it up with a simple skirt and heels or dress it down with shorts (it was 80 degrees and I could NOT say no to shorts). I love the necklace pattern and I wear it all the time.

Like yesterday.

Or going out with friends.

Or Christmas.

I bet if I scrolled through Instagram I’d find five more obnoxious selfies with this top but I CAN’T STOP.

My husband Daniel’s take: “It would be cool if the beads were actually a GIANT ROSARY.”

OK, are we ready to say goodbye to winter and see what’s coming for the summer collection?

The Halifax:

HOLD UP, HALEY. That’s a white top. There is so much white on that top. There is no way it will survive in my household. Aha! But like most of the tops by E&C it’s made with Unstainable® fabric and repels all water-, oil-, and alcohol-based stains! This pretty yet practical white Crêpe de Chine blouse has delicate ocean blue and white color-blocked pleats on both the front and back v-neckline. I’m not sure exactly what Crêpe de Chine is, but it sure sounds nice. I love the length of the sleeves. So feminine.

The Mercer:
I love how simple this one is and yet how the asymmetry and draped neckline give it some punch. This Crêpe de Chine blouse has a double-layer of fabric throughout to provide 100% opacity and uses the Unstainable® fabric technology to repel all water-, oil-, and alcohol-based stains.

It’s just perfect for giving a presentation at the trendy company you work for in New York City. Oh that’s not your life?  How about for when your toddler tries to hand you your cup of tea and instead spills it all over your top (UNSTAINABLE, remember?!)

The York:

This exquisite Ponte de Roma knit style incorporates a super soft, Sweat-Proof™ cupro lining, flat collar, structured cap-sleeves and cut-out panels at the bottom hem for a striking detail. BUT IS IT UNSTAINABLE, HALEY? I’m so glad you asked. Yes. Yes it is.

Any other moms out there who haven’t worn white in YEARS? I’m pretty excited about this.

So there you have it folks. Winter review and Summer spoiler. And remember that if you want to try out Elizabeth & Clarke, you can use CCARROTS10 for a 10% discount!

I love the gray shirt! It is so, so cute on you — the effortlessly chic look 🙂 I am also intrigued by the idea of stain-repelling fabric! This summer I’ll be rocking maternity tops but maybe next year.

I love all of your fashion posts! So fun. Also- Anne the Continuing Story is the literal worst. Anathema forever.
