Every summer since I was born (save the summer I was pregnant with Benjamin) I’ve gone to my mom’s family reunion in the North Carolina mountains.

It’s been even more special now that I get to bring my kids to the same mountain to explore, spend time with family, and enjoy the cool weather.

Now that we’re so far away in Texas, the special time with their grandparents is even more important.

(The fam in front of the house my grandfather built a few years before I was born.)

On the way to North Carolina, we stopped at Hot Springs National Park (we got addicted to visiting National Parks on our crazy road trip last summer). Benjamin got sworn in as a Jr. Ranger and we had a blast exploring the park.

(The water really is hot. Lucy tested it.)

Now we’re headed back to Texas to finish unpacking our little house and get settled in our post-farm life. Of course, we’ll still be urban farming and since Daniel will be working at the farm (if you get the Carrots newsletter, you know that he got a job there after his internship wrapped up) we’ll still be connected to the farm which we’re really excited about. I’m honestly so very ready to take a deep breath and have some normalcy after a couple of really crazy years!

Oh, and the kids loved our stop in Nashville on our trip home to get amazing food at Martin’s BBQ Joint. SO GOOD.

Links:

Life in the Time of Grief and Twitter with Tommy Tighe (Our most recent Fountains of Carrots episode. This is definitely one of my favorites so far. Tommy made us laugh so hard, but we also covered some very weighty topics. The Tighe’s newborn son, Luke, passed away last spring and we talked about infant loss and how to support friends experiencing deep grief.)

PBS Anne of Green Gables Movie: Real Simple  (Wait, so there’s TWO Anne films coming out in the near future? Netflix and PBS? This makes me so nervous. Don’t mess it up!)

This Is a Job: The Heart’s Overflow (on stay-at-home mothering)

And everyone saw it: The Washington Post (Absolutely horrifying article about the consequences of teen sexting makes me want to wait til my kids are 35 to get them smart phones.)

Wishing you an awesome weekend!

Lots of love,

Haley

Ah you were in Nashville, and at Martin’s. I hope you had a nice stop. 🙂 We have had them cater lunch at our church before.

I hope you had a nice visit with your family!
