Papermoon Adalena Cut Out Detail Top from Stitch Fix

Every so often, we chat fashion at Carrots. I hope it feels like going shopping with a friend, but not having to try on jeans….or leave your couch.

So here’s the drill. I share a new box of Stitch Fix items, tell ya my thoughts, get my husband Daniel’s take, and share what I kept and what I sent back.

(I’m not gonna go into the details of the personal styling service Stitch Fix in this post, but if you want to know more you can check out my posts about whether Stitch Fix is worth it, how it compares to other styling services like Golden Tote. Here’s the basics: five items chosen just for you by your stylist arrive in a box to your doorstep. You try ‘em on and send back what you don’t want.)

My trusty photographer/husband/farmer was thrilled to help create this fashion post. As you can see. So much fashion. All the pictures.

Adalena Cut Out Detail Top by Papermoon from Stitch Fix

Top: Stitch Fix, Jeans: Stitch Fix, Shoes: Lucky Brand

Item #1: Adalena Cut Out Detail Top by Papermoon. I’m not usually drawn to floral prints, but for some reason I LOVED this one. I told my stylist I wanted some forgiving items in this post-Thanksgiving season and I love the fit of this top. It’s kind of a grown up print but the cut outs make it fun.

Daniel’s Take: “Looks like something Blossom would wear.“

Daniel didn’t seem to understand how clearly awesome this shirt was and kept saying things like, “Well, I just don’t understand what the kids are wearing these days.” But I kept it ANYWAY and wear it often. He’s getting used to it.

Aaron Legging from RD Style from Stitch Fix

Top: Stitch Fix, Leggings: Stitch Fix, Shoes: Clarks (for Christmas last year), Scarf: Can’t remember

Item #2: Aaron Legging from RD Style. OK, so I MAY have worn these leggings every single day since they arrived. I love them. They go with everything and are part of my winter momiform now. Quality leggings are worth it, ladies. So worth it. But I’m running out of tunic length tops which make up the other half of my momiform.

Daniel’s Take: “Those are maybe serious work out leggings.”

Maybe so. I’m gonna find out. Anyhow, kept ’em.

Kady Dress by Skies are Blue from Stitch Fix

Dress: Stitch Fix, Leggings: Stitch Fix, Shoes: Clarks

Item #3: Kady Dress from Skies are Blue. Nope. I had high hopes for this one and I like the fit of the sleeves but around the waist it’s just SUPER unflattering and weird. I wanted to deny it because I love the idea of this dress, but Daniel told me straight off it was a no and then I got a second opinion from one of the other interns on the farm.

Me: “What do you think about this dress?”

Other Intern: “Um…..I……well…………it’s just a little….erm….does it come with a belt?”

Me: “Point taken.”

Daniel’s Take: I actually don’t remember exactly what he said. Just that he was vehemently opposed.

Alas. Back you go.

SF15Item4

Dress: Stitch Fix, Leggings: Stitch Fix, Shoes: DSW

Item #4: Skyler Dress by RD Style. Dress attempt take 2. I don’t hate this dress. I kinda like it. But I don’t love it. And everywhere the lacy dress was too loose, this one is a tad too snug. Sassy can’t breathe. And it was doing that annoying that where it’s stretched too tight across the torso so that part of your bra strap shoes under your arm. You know what I’m talking about. No thank you.

“Oh hey guys. Doing morning chores? Cool, Daniel’s just taking pictures for my blog and I’m wearing high heels and it’s 7am and now you think we’re super weird but BLOGGERS GOTTA BLOG.”

Seriously awkward moment there. Anyhow…

Daniel’s Take: “You look like you sell fancy real estate.”

OK, last one.

Cabot Lace Detail Blouse by Daniel Rainn from Stitch Fix

Top: Stitch Fix, Jeans: Stitch Fix, Shoes: Lucky Brand

Item #5: Cabot Lace Detail Blouse from Daniel Rainn. I actually really like this shirt, but I have plenty of fancy-ish date night kinda tops and not enough everyday-I-live-on-a-farm-and-homeschool-three-kids-and-milk-the-occasional-goat kind of tops. So I let this one go because I am not into spending money on unnecessary clothes.

I really like the lace detailing.

Daniel’s Take: “I feel like there’s too much lace.”

Well, okay then.

So, all in all. I kept two of the five items. The dresses didn’t work out, but they were near misses in fit. I really needed a good quality pair of leggings to get me through winter and the floral top was not at all something I would have chosen for myself but I love it.

What did you think about this fix? Thumbs up, thumbs down? What would you have kept?

And hey, if you running out of time to get a giftie for someone who might love Stitch Fix, they have gift cards! Ta da! It’s one of the items I included on my Carrots (LAST MINUTE) Christmas Gift Guide.

Ooh, I love that last top! It’s too bad about the red lacy dress. The fit is super weird. If it had a belt or cinching to make a high waist, maybe it would work better, but I think you made a good call by sending it back!

It really is too bad. I still can’t figure out exactly what made the fit so awful. Because flowy isn’t necessarily bad, but it was just…off.

I think its the fabric….it’s too stiff for that cut, and looks tent-y.

It’s the box-flow! I keep seeing these and they always seem so promising but nope. The lines and stiff fabric makes them stick out in this really awkward way which is just too bad.

It’s funny to me that Daniel had a problem with that floral shirt, because it’s seriously CUTE. Maybe he’s been MK-Ultra’d, and flowers are one of his triggers. That’s probably the most reasonable of all the explanations I can think of.

I know, right? It’s clearly the best shirt.

Oh this was fun! I did really feel like I was there on the farm with you!

Love the leggings, that’s all I wear now too. Maybe because it’s all I fit in now being almost 9 months pregnant. 🙂

You can send that big floppy red dress my way, it definitely looks like a maternity item!

Thanks for dressing up and sharing!

You really are so pretty! I agree with everything Daniel says!!!!! LOL. I can just imagine the other farmies looking on, mystified. haha. 🙂 Hysterical. And yah, I think you picked well. The red one almost seems Our Lady of Guadalupe appropriate.

I love that last red top! It is definitely perfect for the holidays, but I can see why you’d send it back right now. You only need so many date night-ish tops when you live on a farm! Way to exercise prudence. I’m still waiting to grow in that before signing up for Stitch Fix… but don’t worry, when I do, I’ll definitely use your referral link!

“Everyday-I-live-on-a-farm-and-homeschool-three-kids-and-milk-the-occasional-goat kind of tops”- This made me laugh. I think that kind of top probably looks like an old shirt of Daniel’s. With a sturdy pair of jeans.

Sad that last top couldn’t find a home with you. (You are more disciplined than I am!)

Fun stuff! Just ordered my first stitch fix and will get it in a couple weeks. I’m super excited to (hopefully) update my wardrobe! My maternity wardrobe is nicer than my regular wardrobe right now because over the last few years by the time I’ve gotten back to my regular size I’ve only had a couple months before I was pregnant again, LOL.
