Welcome to Carrots! I'm so glad you're back. You can sign up for my email newsletter here to stay in touch, or look me up on Instagram!

Every so often, we chat fashion at Carrots. I hope it feels like going shopping with a friend, but not having to try on jeans….or leave your couch.

So here’s the drill. I share a new box of Stitch Fix items, tell ya my thoughts, get my husband Daniel’s take, and tell you what I kept and what I sent back.

(I’m not gonna go into the details of the personal styling service Stitch Fix here, but if you want to know more you can check out my posts about whether Stitch Fix is worth it, how it compares to other styling services like Golden Tote. Here’s all you need to know: five items chosen just for you by your stylist arrive in a box to your doorstep. You try ‘em on and send back what you don’t want.)

DanielSF

Enter the photographer! What can I say? Fashion is his passion. (False. He’s just very obliging.) Ok, Item #1 here we go:

Emi Demin Cargo Skir by Liverpool: Stitch FIx

Shirt: Stitch Fix, Skirt: Stitch Fix, Sandals: Target

Item #1: Emi Demin Cargo Skirt: Liverpool. Now that summer is here and I finally have some shorts that I don’t hate, I’ve been focusing on adding some more versatile skirts to my wardrobe.

Emi Demin Cargo Skirt by Liverpool: Stitch FIx

And I’m really pleased with this one. You can tuck in a shirt or not and it works. Super comfy, sturdy, and versatile. Keepin’ it!

Emi Demin Cargo Skirt by Liverpool: Stitch FIx

Daniel’s Take: “You know what this outfit needs? A jean jacket. Man, I need a jean jacket too. Can that be our thing as a family?”

Rosalie Chambray Dress: Crescent Stitch Fix

Dress: Stitch Fix, Sandals: Target

Item #2: Rosalie Chambray Dress: Crescent. Or as I like to call it, the Kimmy Schmidt dress. Just no. I’m already a homeschool mom who drives a minivan. You can’t make me wear frumpy denim dresses, too, Stitch Fix!

Rosalie Chambray Dress: Crescent Stitch Fix

Get. me. out. of. this. dress. In addition to the denim-y dress vibe, the fit is also weird. Not doing me any favors. Be gone.

Daniel’s Take: “Never mind. That’s too much denim. If we start our own commune, this can be what the women wear. With white tennis shoes.”

Melisa Mixed Geo Print Pencil Skirt: Renee C Stitch Fix

Skirt: Stitch Fix, Shirt: Target, gifted, Sandals: Target

Item #3: Melisa Mixed Geo Print Pencil Skirt: Renee C. Ok, so not frumpy like Item #2 but the pendulum has swung a little too far in the other direction. I mean…I AM a minivan-driving homeschool mom not….Miley Cyrus or whoever the kids are listening to these days. Am I being overly dramatic?

Melisa Mixed Geo Print Pencil Skirt: Renee C Stitch Fix

I’m just not super short skirt kinda gal. And I don’t love geometric patterns like this.

Melisa Mixed Geo Print Pencil Skirt: Renee C Stitch Fix

Snug on the bum is not my favorite style. Back you go, pencil skirt.

Daniel’s Take: “You should get this in case we need to go to clubbing.”

Jahana Cargo Vest: Market and Spruce Stitch Fix

Vest: Stitch Fix, Shirt: Stitch Fix, Pants: Stitch Fix, Shoes: Target

Item #4: Jahana Cargo Vest: Market and Spruce. Um. What is happening here?

Jahana Cargo Vest: Market and Spruce Stitch Fix

Is this Out of Africa? Under what circumstances would I wear this? Not if it’s cold because it doesn’t have arms. But not if it’s hot because…then it would be hot.

Jahana Cargo Vest: Market and Spruce Stitch Fix

Do I blend in with the forest (ahem, backyard)?

Jahana Cargo Vest: Market and Spruce Stitch Fix

How bout now? Ok. Enough insanity. Go home, vest, you’re……a weird safari-inspired vest.

Daniel’s Take:  “It looks like you’re either about to storm the beaches of Normandy or vandalize a building.”

Rylin Pintuck Detailed Silk Blouse: Pale Sky Stitch Fix

Top: Stitch Fix, Jeans: Old Navy, Shoes: Target

Item #5: Rylin Pintuck Detailed Silk Blouse: Pale.  I love this shirt. And wrestled with myself over whether to keep it or not.

Rylin Pintuck Detailed Silk Blouse: Pale Sky Stitch Fix

Daniel’s Take: “I like it. Looks comfortable. I might want one.”

Seriously such a beautiful shirt. But after asking for advice on the Carrots FB page, I realized that I really am not up for carefully and meticulously washing a silk blouse….with three small kids….on a farm. And it was a leeeeeetle bit pricier than I usually am willing to pay. So I sent it back. No regrets, but man….I need a simple black top. Just not silk.

Rylin Pintuck Detailed Silk Blouse: Pale Sky Stitch Fix

Oh and tangent, this is the necklace that Daniel gave me for our 9th anniversary last month. Little map of Tallahassee. We’ll miss you, Florida!

Rylin Pintuck Detailed Silk Blouse: Pale Sky Stitch Fix

Ok, back to the shirt. I also love that the shirt was long enough that I could wear my cats in space leggings as pants.

Rylin Pintuck Detailed Silk Blouse: Pale Sky Stitch Fix

Don’t judge me.

And that’s it, folks!

What did you think of this fix? Should I have kept the black top? Should I go on a safari? Should I work cats in space into every fashion post? Let’s chat in the comments so I can procrastinate on packing up our house for the move.

Oh my goodness! Your stylist must have been drinking with this fix. I do love the black shirt, but silk?? Ain’t nobody got time for that! And I laughed out loud at the Kimmy Schmidt line. We just started watching it on Netflix and I think it has potential!

Seriously on that black top. And what is going on with Stitch Fix? Are they all single and childless or something? Do they not understand about why moms don’t want anything that has to be pampered? My daughter Rosie (of rosie-ablogformymom.blogspot.com fame) *just* got a Stitch Fix box with a beautiful but handwash only top. And it was too expensive, too. So what the heck is going on in StitchFixland?

Oh my gosh. I am CRACKING up literally out loud at the safari vest. You pretty much reached Kelly Mantoan post hilarious rated by how extreme my response was.
So so funny and although it does look kinda cute on you, since you’re not a carefree woman walking around NYC just waiting for the Humans of NY photographer to zone in you, yeah, so impractical.

I’m with Sarah on this. The safari vest picture with the hood up made me snort my coffee. In a good way.

The black top is so lovely, but I hear you on the washing instructions. Ugh.

As always, Daniel’s comments are the best! You could tooootally go storm some beaches in Texas. I dont think Galveston has been stormed in a while! 😉

These outfits dont really make much sense though. Maybe you got sent ‘the bottom of the bag’ by mistake? How did they think these things would appeal to the same person?

Stitch Fix has been SO hit or miss for me lately. Do you have a Pinterest style board that your stylist can see? I’ve found that’s helped a ton so that they can see that I really don’t favor short, curve hugging things (I’m 23 so they assume I do). Hopefully you’ll be more successful next time!

I KIND of have a Pinterest board but I made it ages ago and I never update it. :/ Maybe I should do that. I’ve had a series of really great fixes but this one wasn’t really my usual, haha

I’ll have to agree with the drinking stylist comment! One of the more random fixes I’ve seen, but even if you would have kept the safari themed not-summer-not-winter vest, you could have totally rocked it, fyi 🙂

Daniel was really on a roll this time! 😀 I loved the black blouse, but definitely am with you on the silk. I have that problem with my current wardrobe. Too many pretty things that just don’t mesh with my life, and instead of being realistic I continue to live in hope. ONE DAY, I will no longer have small people using my clothing for napkins and handkerchiefs, and I will be able to wear nice clothes again!!! Meanwhile, well, jeans and t-shirts are my friend. 🙁 Sort of.

I think the intended use of that vest is pretty much nailed in that second picture. Hoods up baby!

I’m so confused by your stylist this time – the Miley skirt and the denim dress and the safari jacket all in one box? Those are for three different people! Did you tell your stylist that you have a split personality or something?!

Good decision on the top. It’s super cute but an everyday shirt is not worth the headache of careful washing.

I would have kept the black silk blouse and the geometric patterned skirt and put it together. You looked great in the skirt regardless of it being a little too short for my taste too. That denim dress was too much though! I’m with you- too Kimmy Schmidt. 🙂

    Ok…

    1) I have a cats in space blanket. It is pretty awesome. But now you’ve made me realise that I also need leggings!

    2) I actually really liked the pencil skirt outfit. Probably not the best for bending over to pick up kids, but great for running errands where you want to look hip & yet styled. Like going to the bank…or a fancy grocery store 😉 the club wear I’m used to seeing is a lot more revealing. (Maybe that says something about Canadian club goers. I don’t know how they don’t all die from hypothermia).

3: Love the black shirt, but you made the right decision. 🙁

Annnnd…I’ve for sure washed it in the washing machine. Haha I don’t think I ever checked the tag. WHUPS. But it still looks great and is a favorite ;).
