So I did something this morning. Kind of on a whim. I cut my baby girl's hair. First hair cuts are always a pretty big deal but not everyone's barely 2-year-old has hair down to her hips. So it was a SUPER big deal. I've been pulling for a cute summer bob for awhile but Daniel wasn't ready to say goodbye to her baby curls. So I put him on hair washing/conditioning/detangling duty which he … [Read more...]

This Week’s Miscellany: Vol. 129 (Moving out!)
Ta da! I give you the cube that is now housing all our earthly goods except for the clothes and necessities we'll need for the next nine weeks (including six weeks of road trip/camping/speaking). It feels good that all our stuff actually fits in that little POD. Here's something I learned about moving out of a place you've been living for five years.....just when you think you're almost done … [Read more...]
What Don Draper Could Learn from Pa Ingalls and Wendell Berry
I love Mad Men. The writing, the aesthetic, everything. It’s a brilliant show and it gave me a sense of what it must have been like to live in that era. One of the fascinating themes of the show is the rise of the women in the workplace. Whether it’s the working mom like Joan Harris or the ambitious career woman, Peggy Olson, we see the struggles and challenges of balancing family, work, and … [Read more...]
Beauty for Your Family Altar: A Review and Giveaway of the Sacred Art Series {Sponsored Post}
This post is sponsored by the Sacred Art Series from Bloomfield Books. All opinions are my own. I love to fill our home with sacred art. It's important to Daniel and I to create an environment of beauty for our kids. And we want there to be images in our home that help them learn about our Christian faith. We have tons of great and beautiful picture books about the saints but when it … [Read more...]
This Week’s Miscellany: Vol. 128
Welcome to This Week’s Miscellany, the weekly feature at Carrots where I share photos, quotes, links, or whatever strikes my fancy! It seems weird to start this off with anything other than grief and prayers for Charleston and the victims of the racist hate crime that took so many lives. And following that, any little news our family has seems silly and trite but it's all I have to share … [Read more...]
20 States + 6 Weeks + 3 Kids + One Van = Our Next Crazy Idea
Give a warm welcome to my husband Daniel, known on the internets as Daniel Bearman. I don't even know why anymore. But folks call him that. He's spilling the beans on what we're up to after we move out of our house in Florida but before we arrive in TX. And it's either one of the best ideas we've ever had or a nightmare of epic proportions. - Haley By now, most of you have heard the news … [Read more...]
Friday Fashion Frivolity: Denim, Out of Africa, and Cats in Space
Every so often, we chat fashion at Carrots. I hope it feels like going shopping with a friend, but not having to try on jeans….or leave your couch. So here's the drill. I share a new box of Stitch Fix items, tell ya my thoughts, get my husband Daniel's take, and tell you what I kept and what I sent back. (I’m not gonna go into the details of the personal styling service Stitch Fix here, but … [Read more...]
Welcome to Crazy Town
I know it's been quiet over here the past few days, y'all. Sorry! We are two weeks away from our move out date. (If you hadn't heard, we're moving cross country to a farm.) And the stress, y'all....the stress has hit. It's been crazy. There are now piles and boxes all over the house as packing has begun. Daniel is orchestrating all the changes in health insurance, the giant pod to move all … [Read more...]
8 Ways to Help a Mom Struggling with Severe Morning Sickness
Give a warm welcome to Rachel of Efficient Mama who's sharing about supporting women with severe morning sickness or hyperemisis gravidarum. Since I've had HG for two out of three pregnancies, I say YES to all of Rachel's advice! - Haley I've gone through two pregnancies now that had pretty severe morning sickness, the first being the worst. When I tell you it was severe, I'm talking puking … [Read more...]
Don Draper’s First Confession
**Spoilers ahead, folks. If you don't want any of the plot of Mad Men ruined for you, don't continue.** “The young man ringing the bell at a brothel is unconsciously looking for God.”-Bruce Marshall source: Justina Mintz/AMC Before I started watching Mad Men, I thought it was a show about an attractive guy name Don Draper with supporting characters Sex, Cocktails, and Cigarettes. And … [Read more...]
