Just dropping in to announce that Megan Kuo was the winner of the Usborne Books and More giveaway! Congrats, Megan. You'll be hearing from me soon about your prize. Be sure to stop by the Usborne web site and check out all of their great books! No This Week's Miscellany today because I am yet AGAIN spiking a fever with tonsilitis. Why I Felt Guilty About My Last Pregnancy (and Why I Don’t Anymore)

January 7, 2014 By Haley 94 Comments

On a recent December afternoon, the “big kids” (age 2 and 4) went to grandma’s house and I got to spend a couple hours with just my baby girl (7 months). She took a cat nap in her crib and then promptly woke and I sat on the couch next to our twinkling Christmas tree and nursed her. She typically doesn’t fall asleep while nursing anymore, but this time she did. Her precious little body relaxed and … [Read more...]

Sex, Tomatoes, and High Fructose Corn Syrup

January 6, 2014 By Haley 50 Comments

(Guest post by Daniel) I can no longer eat that little tomato wedge that comes with side salads at restaurants. You know, the little half moon that sits to the right of the iceberg mix with the texture of styrofoam and a taste vaguely reminiscent of watery ketchup. I used to be able to eat them but then I had a real, fresh tomato with soft, meaty flesh and vibrant tomato flavor. Now, I could … [Read more...]

This Week’s Miscellany: Vol. 76

January 5, 2014 By Haley 14 Comments

Coming Up in the Liturgical Year: Well, the twelve days of Christmas are almost over. We are finally almost all over whatever it was we had (Gwen and Lucy are still a bit snuffly, but otherwise cheerful). I was pretty disappointed to have to scrap almost all our Christmas fun plans. But I did finally get around to trying to make a Buche de Noel this year! Gluten-Free Buche de Noel (Yule Log) … [Read more...]

My Top 10 Favorite Posts from 2013

January 2, 2014 By Haley 4 Comments

Yesterday I shared the top 10 most popular posts from 2013. The funny thing is, the posts that get the most clicks are rarely the ones that I love the most or poured my heart into. So here's a few of the posts that I'm most proud of from 2013. If you didn't read them the first time around, I hope you'll enjoy them now! 1. Praying with Your Feet: "Sometimes I make the mistake of separating my … [Read more...]

10 Most Popular Carrots Posts of 2013

January 1, 2014 By Haley 11 Comments

Happy Feast of Mary Mother of God and Happy New Year! I've been pretty disappointed that since I've been sick since Christmas Eve we haven't had the chance to do all the fun Christmastide things we planned. But I can still drink tea from my Christmas tea cups! You can't take that away from me, tonsilitis! Tired eyes and messy counters, my friends. Anyhow, we let the kids stay up an hour past … [Read more...]
