Did it just hit you that Advent is almost here? OK, good, because it just hit me, too. Haven’t ordered Advent candles yet? Well, you’re in luck. Because Toadily Handmade Beeswax Advent Candles is sponsoring a giveaway and offering one Make Your Own Advent Candle Kit to the lucky winner!

Toadily Handmade Beeswax Candles

For the past four years, I’ve bought my Advent candles from them because they are not only prettier than the run-of-the-mill set, but they’re made of 100% beeswax which is not only better for your home because there’s no nasty toxic ingredients, but they are also liturgically appropriate. Did you know that religious candles were always made of beeswax and candles used in Catholic churches are still supposed to be at least 51% beeswax? They burn purer and have that sweet beeswax scent and I can’t get enough of them. All I ever want for Christmas is books and beeswax candles in case anyone’s taking notes… πŸ˜‰

Anyhow, since we’ve been ordering the Advent Candle Making Kit the past couple of years instead of the ready-made Advent candles, Benjamin gets to help me roll the beeswax sheets around the wick and it’s become a special tradition to make them together the night beforeAdvent begins.. Lucy can help this year, too! It’s very easy and, with guidance, young children can make them without difficulty. And the kit comes with enough beeswax sheets to make three sets of Advent candles, so you could have a little party and make them with two friends!

Toadily Handmade Beeswax Candles also makes handmade Advent candles, if you’re not interested in rolling the sheets yourself. They have some really fun products like their sushi candles and I love this detailed rose pillar which I want for St. Therese of Lisieux’s Day next year.

I can’t believe Advent is almost here! Crunch time for putting the finishing touches on our liturgical year bookΒ so we can get it out to you before the first recipe: St. Andrew’s Day (November 30th)!

My husband and I have decided to start celebrating the liturgical year in our home since our oldest is 5 now and we want to make it a tradition in our family. We are starting with Advent and would love a set of these candles!

  2. Jennifer says

Love, love, love the hand rolled taper candles at Beeswax! They are so simple yet above and beyond your normal candlestick. Always looking for good looking advent candles…

Now, anyone know why every advent set is that exact shade of pink and purple – just curious?!?

  3. Jill says

I need to start more traditions with my girls (4 and 2). Beautiful advent candles would be the perfect place to start this Christmas season.

  4. Rebekah says

The frog shaped tea lights were my favorite. I have a sister who collects frogs who might enjoy them. A possible Christmas gift idea. She’s recently Vegan though. I’ll have to ask her if beeswax candles are allowed.

  5. Audrey says

I was just writing in the beginning of Advent on our calendar, and I was just reading about the benefits of 100% beeswax candles. Would love to win this giveaway!

  6. says

I feel like those beeswax candles would be very happy in our home. And I’d love to show them around to friends who would want to get their own. Help me win this, Guardian Angel!

  7. Sarah says

I think these are the prettiest advent candles I have seen! I want to start following the liturgical calender with my husband and baby daughter and we are attempting Advent this year. I’m thinking of converting, so this seems like a fun place to start. Also, so excited about “Feast!”

I love the tapers – gorgeous colors. If we win (or even if we don’t and I buy the kit) I want to copy your tradition of rolling the candles the night before advent begins.

  10. says

Oh, man, I love the idea of making our own Advent candles! I just got married 11 days ago, and my husband and I have been talking for months (practically since we started going out together) about family traditions we want to start surrounding red-letter days of the calendar, name days, etc, and we were just talking about Advent the other day and how we can afford to get candles and a wreath on a seminarian’s budget. So I’d really love to win this giveaway. πŸ™‚

  11. Alison says

We’d love to roll our own beeswax advent candles with our 3.5 and 1.5 year old πŸ™‚ That rose candle would be great too though…

  21. says

I love the idea of rolling my own Advent candles! I’ve never done it before. Already added the kit to my cart with a candle ring. Maybe I’ll wait and see if I win one first.

  22. says

Wow! SO lovely! The itty-bitty floating orchids are so nice, and the floating honey-bee…made from beeswax…!

    …but then the detail leaf/rose pillars are AH-mazing…! πŸ™‚

  23. Jennifer says

We use the Toadily kit to make our advent candles last year, along with sets for the grandparents. Our then 2 and 4 yr olds loved it and I can’t wait to do it with them again this year!

I love your idea of having the kids help roll the candles for Advent! Even If i don’t win the kit I’ll probably order the beeswax tea lights, i haven’t found a beeswax seller that makes them nearby me.

  28. Mary says

This is so cute! I love that you can make your own candles! Such a great way to bring the whole family into the Advent celebration.

  29. says

I love these! I think making your own advent candles makes you more ‘invested’ in the celebration, so to speak…especially for children. “It’s time to light the candles that I made!” πŸ™‚

  30. Theresa says

Would love these candles! This year I’m hoping to be much more consistent and intentional about celebrating Advent in our home. These would make our celebration much more special.

  31. L.P. says

This kit is such a great idea! I have tradition (going on about 7 years now) with my mother, my aunt, my sister and her kids, and my cousin and her kids. We go to one of those paint-your-own pottery places on the weekend after Thanksgiving and paint Christmas ornaments, and one piece of a nativity set. I already sent an email to them with the link to Toadily and said that I want to add this to our ornament-painting day. And everyone agreed!

  32. says

I usually get something similar from Illuminated Ink, I had no idea there was anyone else out there offering something like this!
My children love working with the beeswax and the connection to making the candles is such a lovely part of their Advent.

  33. Danielle says

I love the make your own advent candle kit. It would be a great start to start celebrating the entire liturgical year.

  34. Karen says

What a sweet tradition! I’d love to start hand rolling Advent candles instead of purchasing the ready made ones. Thank you for the idea. I can’t wait to do this with my son πŸ™‚

  35. Rebecca Newport says

Since we are Eastern Orthodox, our Advent wreath has 7 candles so I would think the hand-rolled tapers would be wonderful for us!

  36. Heidi Felton says

My boys would LOVE making their own advent candles (and the birthday candle kit looks awesome too). Thanks for letting us know about this company – I am bookmarking for future.

I am a fairly new reader (and I cannot even remember how I found you), but I very much enjoy your writing. Thank you!

  37. megp says

I love these candles! I set would be wonderful to have this year to start out first official advent celebration! I love the blog.

  38. Elizabeth says

The rosebud and egg votives along with the Advent candles look beautiful! Thanks for passing along the website!

  39. says

I definitely want to start up an Advent candle tradition, especially to teach my (Protestant) family more about it. The rose pillar looks so cool but I also like the little rosebud votives.

I’m looking forward to the release of your e-cookbook, Haley!
